Mojang has officially announced Minecraft Dungeons 2 during the first Minecraft Live of 2026, and this sequel to Minecraft's dungeon-crawling spin-off came as a surprise. It was quite unexpected as the studio stopped support for the first Dungeons game.
Now that Dungeons 2 is finally announced, fans are on their toes, looking forward to further details about the upcoming release. In the section below, we take a look at everything about the highly anticipated follow-up, such as the release date, platforms, and more.
Minecraft Dungeons 2 Release Date and More Details
Minecraft Dungeons 2 is all set to be released in Fall 2026, and Mojang confirmed the same through the announcement video. Even though an exact release date is not known, you can expect the developers to reveal further specifics throughout the year. Keep in mind that the Minecraft Chaos Cubed update is expected around June 2026, so a September to November release window appears most likely for Dungeons 2.
Speaking of the platforms, Minecraft Dungeons 2 will be released on Windows PC, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, and Switch 2, and Game Pass. The cross-platform support has not been officially confirmed, but it is likely that it will be available.
What to Expect from Minecraft Dungeons 2?
Fans have a lot of expectations from Minecraft Dungeons 2, and the official trailer for it hinted at a mysterious rising threat. Among the main focuses was on Sculk blocks and the Deep Dark biome, wherein we were able to see Sculk spreading aggressively and infecting caves.
Following this, the camera focused on the Ancient City, moving on to the Minecraft Ancient City portal that activates briefly. The same could suggest that a new dimension and story may expand beyond the Overworld.
Mojang also ended up hiding a QR code in the trailer that leads to a secret unlisted video. Upon using a hex string converter, fans were able to translate the numbers in the page to "spicewood." Additionally, the video title decodes to "Unlock the path" when decoded using spicewood as the key.
When Minecraft Dungeons first launched in 2020, it amassed millions of players within a short time. Despite its success, the gameplay was considered repetitive and lacked meaningful endgame content. This resulted in Mojang concluding the development. After over two years, the massive success of the original has led to the reveal of a sequel. With Mojang appearing to have learned from the shortcomings of the original, Minecraft Dungeons 2 will be one of the most exciting releases on the 2026 gaming calendar.
