Kanpur: MBBS students at Kanpur Dehat Medical College staged a protest outside the campus late on Thursday night against prolonged power cuts, alleging that they were receiving electricity for only four to five hours a day. The students came out of their hostels around midnight and raised slogans against the administration, claiming that the erratic power supply was adversely affecting their studies, exam preparation, and daily activities amid the intense heat.
Impact on Daily Life
The students stated that the continuous outages had also disrupted mobile charging, internet connectivity, and water supply. Police personnel reached the spot after being alerted and pacified the students. The students claimed that they had informed the administration several times about the issue, but no effective steps were taken. They warned of a larger agitation if the problem was not resolved soon.
College Administration's Response
Principal Dr. Harmeet Singh said that the college had repeatedly written to senior officials and the energy department regarding the problem. He mentioned that the college was receiving electricity through a regular feeder line and demanded a dedicated line to ensure uninterrupted supply to the hospital and hostels.
In the meantime, students are hoping for a swift resolution to the power crisis to resume their studies without further disruptions.
