India Launches Barrier-Less MLFF Toll Plazas in Delhi and Gujarat
India Introduces MLFF Toll Plazas in Delhi, Gujarat

India has taken a significant step towards modernizing its highway toll collection system with the introduction of barrier-less Multi-Lane Free Flow (MLFF) toll plazas in Delhi and Gujarat. This innovative system aims to streamline toll collection and reduce congestion on major highways.

What is MLFF Tolling?

MLFF is a modern toll collection system that uses Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) cameras, FastTag, and GPS technology to deduct fees without requiring vehicles to stop. This eliminates the need for traditional toll booths and allows for seamless passage.

Benefits for Drivers

Drivers will experience reduced travel time, lower fuel consumption, and less congestion. Vehicles can pass through toll plazas at lane speed limits without slowing down, making journeys more efficient and environmentally friendly.

Cost Savings for Operators

Toll collection companies can reduce operating costs by up to 3-4% due to automated processes and reduced infrastructure needs. This efficiency gain is expected to benefit both operators and the overall transportation system.

Penalties for Non-Compliance

To ensure compliance, the system imposes penalties for violations. If a vehicle has a low FastTag balance, an e-notice is issued with a 72-hour deadline for payment. Non-payment results in double toll charges. Additionally, vehicles without High-Security Registration Plates (HSRP) face fines up to Rs 10,000, with a first violation fine of Rs 1,000 and repeat violations attracting fines between Rs 5,000 and Rs 10,000.

Future Rollout Plans

More MLFF systems are expected to launch in 2024, expanding beyond Gujarat and Delhi to other national highways across the country. This phased rollout aims to modernize India's toll collection infrastructure nationwide.
