New Delhi: The Delhi Police has uncovered a fraudulent call centre syndicate and apprehended a 30-year-old man for allegedly deceiving individuals with false promises of Jan Sahayta Kendra franchises. The arrest came after a complaint was lodged by a victim who claimed he was cheated out of Rs 21,330 under the pretext of being granted a franchise and distributor ID for the centre. The accused reportedly vanished after receiving the payment.
Investigation and Arrest
A case was registered, and during the investigation, authorities traced the financial trail, leading them to the accused, identified as Mohammad Shiraj, a resident of Tughlakabad Extension. He was subsequently located and taken into custody. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Outer North) Hareshwar Swami stated, "The accused disclosed that he, along with his accomplices Rahul and Vaishnavi, was operating a fake call centre from Noida." The syndicate allegedly lured victims by posting enticing advertisements on social media platforms, offering Jan Sahayta Kendra franchises.
Second Fraud Case: Mule Bank Accounts
In a separate incident, the Delhi Police dismantled an online fraud network and arrested two men for facilitating the movement of defrauded money through mule bank accounts. The case came to light when a senior citizen from Shahdara reported that approximately Rs 1.7 lakh had been withdrawn from his bank account without authorisation after he clicked on a link received via social media.
The two accused, identified as Abhay Kumar (24) and Amreek Singh (36), were arrested. According to police, they were involved in operating mule accounts used to channel and withdraw proceeds from cyber fraud. Authorities continue to investigate the extent of the syndicate's operations and are working to identify other victims.
