In a significant move to enhance the security of women traveling in Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TGSRTC) buses, the Adilabad police have equipped all 175 buses with CCTV cameras. This initiative aims to deter potential offenders and assist in evidence collection.
Details of the CCTV Installation
Each bus now features a CCTV camera positioned near the driver's seat, specifically oriented to capture the area designated for women passengers. The installation was completed approximately two weeks ago. According to Adilabad Superintendent of Police Akhil Mahajan, the presence of CCTV cameras can create a strong deterrent effect, in addition to providing crucial evidence in case of any untoward incident.
Previous Initiatives and Additional Measures
This is not the first such effort in the region. A couple of years ago, a similar service was introduced in some district buses in Rajanna Sircilla district. Furthermore, the police have launched the 'Police Akka' initiative, under which female police officers befriend girl students in colonies and educational institutions to gather information about instances of misbehavior. This proactive approach aims to address safety concerns at the grassroots level.
