The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has faced severe criticism after major technical glitches disrupted its online portal for accessing scanned copies of Class 12 answer sheets. Thousands of students and parents across the country reported problems with the system, contradicting the board's earlier claim that the portal was functioning efficiently.
Initial Claims vs. Reality
CBSE initially maintained that the portal was operating smoothly, stating that within the first three hours of launch, 1.27 lakh applications were successfully filed for 3.87 lakh answer sheets. However, this assertion was sharply contradicted by a flood of complaints from students nationwide.
Social Media Erupts with Complaints
Soon after the announcement, social media platforms were inundated with grievances from students and parents highlighting several issues. A key concern was repeated payment failures. Many students claimed that although the application fee was debited from their bank accounts, the portal still displayed the payment status as “unsuccessful.” This led to financial loss and considerable mental stress among applicants.
CBSE's Response
In response to the outcry, CBSE issued a circular extending the deadline to apply for scanned copies from May 22 to May 23, acknowledging the technical issues faced by users. However, the extension offered limited respite.
Persistent Problems
Students trying to avail of the extended window encountered a “site under maintenance” message on the website, preventing them from completing the process. With the deadline nearing and no clarity on when the portal would be fully operational, uncertainty persisted.
The technical glitches have raised serious questions about the board's preparedness and the reliability of its digital infrastructure, especially during critical examination periods.
