Commencing in August 2026, any individual wishing to install applications from unverified developers must navigate a comprehensive, one-time, multi-step procedure that incorporates a compulsory 24-hour waiting period before any single APK file can be installed on their device.
The Multi-Step Sideloading Procedure Explained
The process initiates with the activation of developer mode, which involves the traditional method of tapping the build number seven times within the device settings. Subsequently, users encounter a prompt questioning whether they are being coached by someone to disable their security settings. After confirming independent action, the phone requires a restart, followed by a full 24-hour waiting period.
Once this waiting window concludes, users must authenticate through fingerprint recognition, facial unlock, or PIN verification. They then select between a seven-day access window or indefinite permission for unverified installations. Importantly, even after completing these steps, a warning notification will appear during every installation attempt of an unverified application.

Google has deliberately engineered the 24-hour cooldown period to eliminate the manufactured urgency that scammers typically exploit. Fraudulent operators commonly maintain continuous communication with targets, guiding them through security disablement procedures before victims can reconsider. Verified developers who have submitted identification documents, signing keys, and a $25 registration fee will completely bypass this restrictive process for their users.
