Women Wrestlers Compete for Glory at National Championship in Kurukshetra

The All India Inter-University Women's Freestyle Wrestling Championship 2025-26 has officially commenced at Kurukshetra University, marking a significant event in the sporting calendar. The championship was inaugurated on Tuesday at the university's sports complex, drawing participants from universities nationwide to showcase their prowess in wrestling.

University Leadership Emphasizes Sports Development

Vice-Chancellor Prof Som Nath Sachdeva presided over the opening ceremony, highlighting the university's commitment to fostering athletic talent alongside academic excellence. He stated that universities serve as crucial platforms for nurturing sports skills, providing state-of-the-art infrastructure and advanced training facilities. Prof Sachdeva expressed confidence that this environment enables athletes to achieve success at both national and international levels.

Encouraging the participants, he called upon the women wrestlers to uphold the true spirit of sportsmanship. He described the championship as a golden opportunity for athletes to hone their skills and set new benchmarks in the sport.

Adding to the motivational atmosphere, Arjuna Award winner wrestler Rajender Kumar shared his experiences with the athletes. He urged them to move forward with discipline, dedication, and perseverance, emphasizing the importance of hard work in achieving sporting excellence. His words aimed to inspire the next generation of women wrestlers to strive for greatness.

University's Rich Sports Legacy

Director of Sports, Prof Dinesh Rana, elaborated on Kurukshetra University's rich legacy in sports, underscoring its role in promoting athletic development. Chairman of the Sports Council, Dr Amit Kumar, expressed gratitude to all visiting teams, athletes, and organizers for their participation and support in making the event possible.

Championship Schedule and Details

The championship is scheduled to run from March 17 to 20, featuring intense competitions where women wrestlers will demonstrate their strength, skill, and competitive spirit. The event was compered by international boxing coach Rajesh Kumar Rajound, adding a professional touch to the proceedings.

Among the dignitaries present were Vice-Chairperson Dr Sushila, Nitin Sehgal, Sandeep Karoda, Organising Secretary Kulwant Singh, and Sukhbir Singh, along with coaches and supporting staff. Their presence highlighted the collective effort to support women's wrestling in India.
