Indian wrestling is set for a major revival as the Pro Wrestling League (PWL) officially announced its comeback, ending a seven-year hiatus. The league, which has the official sanction of the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI), unveiled a brand-new logo, signaling a complete transformation under new ownership and management.
A Fresh Identity for a New Era
The newly revealed logo is a modern and sleek emblem, drawing inspiration from the traditional red and blue colours of the wrestling mat. This design is not just a visual change; it symbolises core values of the sport: balance, strength, and the competitive spirit. According to the league's leadership, this fresh identity marks a definitive shift towards a more professional, transparent, and athlete-centric future for wrestling in India.
New Leadership and a Complete Overhaul
The revival is spearheaded by the new ownership and management team of ONO Media, led by partners Akhil Gupta and Dayaan Farooqui. They have initiated a comprehensive structural and operational transformation of the PWL. The previous model has been discarded in favour of building a sustainable and transparent ecosystem dedicated to the long-term development of the sport.
"Our new identity reflects a clean slate and a modern, world-class vision," stated Akhil Gupta, CEO of the Pro Wrestling League. "We are committed to building a platform that honours the sport and its athletes through integrity, professionalism, and a long-term commitment."
Bridging Grassroots Akhadas to the Global Stage
In close collaboration with the Wrestling Federation of India, the restructured PWL has a clear mission: to connect India's vast network of grassroots akhadas (traditional wrestling schools) with the international wrestling circuit. The league aims to provide structured career pathways and crucial international exposure for Indian athletes, nurturing homegrown talent to compete on the world stage.
The league's official return is scheduled for January 2026. The fifth season will feature a mix of top-tier Indian wrestlers and renowned international stars, promising high-octane competition for fans. With its redesigned framework and renewed mission, the Pro Wrestling League is poised to script a bold and exciting new chapter for professional wrestling in the country.
