Speaking candidly at the World Sports Summit in early January 2025, Khabib explained his coaching ethos during an on-stage interview with football icon Rio Ferdinand. He made it clear that his fighters understand the rules before they step onto the mat. "When we come to the gym, when we begin our training, all of them know about this," Khabib stated. "There is no freedom of speech. Everybody does what I say. There is no 50/50."

He told Rio Ferdinand that while mutual respect is essential, true friendship is unrealistic in the fight game. "No, we have to be nice. But it’s never going to be friends," he explained. "This guy try to smash your face. How you gonna be friends with him?"
