Mitch Evans wins Berlin E-Prix from back of grid

Jaguar TCS Racing's Mitch Evans delivered an extraordinary performance at the Berlin E-Prix on Sunday, securing victory after starting from the very back of the grid. This triumph marks Evans's second win and fourth podium finish of the current Formula E season.

Race Highlights

Joining Evans on the podium was Nissan's Oliver Rowland, who finished in second place and also recorded the fastest lap of the race at the Tempelhof Airport Street Circuit. Pascal Wehrlein, who started from pole position on home soil, completed the top three in third place.

Evans's victory, following his earlier win at the Miami E-Prix, comes just days after the Jaguar driver announced he will leave the team at the end of the season. Porsche's Wehrlein looked set for second place, but Rowland made a decisive overtake during a yellow-flag phase to claim the runner-up spot. Despite the result, Wehrlein continues to lead the championship standings.

Championship Impact

Both Evans and Rowland climbed the Formula E Drivers' Standings. Evans moved up to second place, overtaking Edoardo Mortara, who drops to third. Rowland now sits fourth in the title race.

Fresh from his win at the 6 Hours of Imola, Envision Racing's Sebastien Buemi narrowly missed out on a podium finish, crossing the line in fourth. Rowland's Nissan teammate Norman Nato scored his first points of the season with a fifth-place finish. Andretti's Jake Dennis secured sixth place, followed by Mahindra Racing's Edoardo Mortara in seventh. DS Penske's Jean-Éric Vergne finished eighth, ahead of Andretti's Felipe Drugovich in ninth and Envision Racing's Joel Eriksson in tenth.

Drivers Who Missed Points

DS Penske's Taylor Barnard, who started on the front row after qualifying second, missed out on points after finishing 11th. It was a home race for Maximilian Gunther, but it proved to be a difficult outing. He received a three-place grid penalty for impeding Andretti's Jake Dennis at the exit of Turn 5 during qualifying and ultimately finished 15th in the Round 8 race.

Porsche driver Nico Muller had won the opening race of the Berlin E-Prix on Saturday. Nick Cassidy, who now races for Citroen Racing, secured a podium on Saturday but failed to finish Sunday's race. He had won the Berlin E-Prix for the past three consecutive years. Jaguar driver Antonio Felix da Costa finished last on Sunday, despite having won in Berlin on three previous occasions.
