Djokovic Dismisses Pressure for 25th Grand Slam Ahead of Australian Open 2026
Djokovic Downplays Pressure for 25th Grand Slam

Novak Djokovic Calmly Addresses Grand Slam Expectations

Novak Djokovic has openly dismissed the mounting pressure surrounding his pursuit of a historic 25th Grand Slam title. Speaking ahead of the Australian Open 2026, the Serbian tennis legend stated he does not feel it is necessary to focus on this milestone.

Record-Breaking Career and Current Standing

Djokovic currently holds 24 Grand Slam singles titles, matching the all-time record set by Australian great Margaret Court. In men's tennis, he stands alone at the top with the most Major victories. His remarkable success includes ten Australian Open wins, making Melbourne Park his most successful venue.

The 38-year-old surpassed Rafael Nadal's 22 Grand Slams in 2023, reaching his 24th title at the US Open that same year. However, he has not added to his tally since then. A close loss to Carlos Alcaraz in the 2024 final denied him the chance to secure number 25.

Djokovic's Measured Perspective on Pressure

Returning to competitive tennis after a break since November, Djokovic faced repeated questions about the elusive 25th Grand Slam. He responded with characteristic composure.

"There has been a lot of talk about the 25th, but I try to focus myself on what I have achieved, not what I'm possibly achieving. I mean, I hope it comes to that, but 24 is also not a bad number," Djokovic remarked.

He elaborated further on handling expectations. "Obviously, there is always pressure and expectations, but I don't think it's needed for me to really go far in terms of a make-it-or-break-it type of thing. It's not a now-or-never type of mentality. I don't feel it's necessary. Neither does that allow me to excel and perform my best," he added.

Recent Form and Australian Open History

Djokovic has faced some fitness challenges recently, yet his track record at the Australian Open remains formidable. He first triumphed at Melbourne Park early in his career and has since claimed nine more titles there. Out of his 24 Grand Slam victories, ten have come at this tournament, highlighting his dominance on these courts.

In the past two editions of the Australian Open, Djokovic reached the semifinals, demonstrating his consistent performance at the event. As the 2026 tournament approaches, all eyes will be on whether he can break the tie with Margaret Court and set a new benchmark in tennis history.
