Sebastien Buemi and Joel Eriksson are preparing for Envision Racing's home race in Sanya, China, and have shared their thoughts ahead of the Sanya E-Prix on Saturday. The drivers exchanged questions and answers in a video, offering insights into the race. Buemi provided advice on preparing for a hot race, while Eriksson explained the track's challenges.
Strategy Discussion for Sanya E-Prix
Envision Racing released a video showing the drivers preparing for the hot and humid Sanya E-Prix. It was posted with the caption: "The boys break down how we maximise the first of THREE home races for us."
In the video, Buemi asked Eriksson, "What do you think, Joel, will be the most important thing to score a lot of points at the weekend?" Eriksson responded, "That's the magic question for every race weekend, but I think, looking ahead to this race, it's going to be very important to manage the temperatures, especially in the battery."
Buemi then inquired about the best overtaking opportunities. Eriksson replied, "Probably Turn 9. Turn 9 is a good one, after the long straight. Then the hairpin. We found out the track is very narrow."
Heat Management Challenges
Buemi also raised concerns about the weather in Sanya. He said, "The weather, I mean, it can rain anytime here, so it's really humid, really hot, but it can rain a lot, so we'll have to be ready in case." When Eriksson asked for advice on preparing for a hot race weekend, Buemi advised, "Having a bit of training in the heat beforehand is always good. You get your body used to the heat, so drinking properly is going to be a big thing this weekend. It's a single-header, so it's a bit less demanding. We get that practice on Friday, but I guess drinking will be important."
Buemi concluded, "So guys, that's it for the preview. I hope you liked all those insights. And just make sure to wake up early if you're in Europe. It's our home race, Envision in China, so we want to do well and hopefully score lots of points."
The Sanya E-Prix began on Friday with the first free practice session, FP1. The second free practice session, qualifying, and the Round 11 race are scheduled for Saturday.
