PARIS: India's Yuki Bhambri and New Zealand's Michael Venus navigated a challenging opening match against Argentines Francisco Cerundolo and Mariano Kestelboim, emerging victorious with a score of 7-5, 6-2 in the first round of the French Open men's doubles competition.
Match Details
Bhambri and Venus, who recently competed in the final of the ATP 250 Series event in Geneva last week, arrived in Paris late on Saturday. Their start was slow, as they trailed by a break in the opening set before regaining momentum to close the match in one hour and 22 minutes.
Next Round Prospects
In the second round, Bhambri and Venus could face the fifth-seeded Italian pair of Andrea Vavassori and Simone Bolelli. The duo previously reached the semifinals of the US Open last year, after which Venus underwent surgery for an injury and only returned to the Tour in March.
Other Matches
Earlier in the day, Sriram Balaji and his Brazilian partner Marcelo Demoliner defeated Germany's Constantin Frantzen and Robin Haase of the Netherlands with a score of 6-3, 4-6, 6-3 in one hour and 45 minutes.
