Chandigarh: Punjab governor and UT administrator Gulab Chand Kataria on Wednesday visited the Athletics Track Sports Complex in Sector 7 to assess the preparations and proposed infrastructure upgradation plans for hosting the Asian Relay Athletics Championship-2027. The event is scheduled to take place in Chandigarh in May next year. H. Rajesh Prasad, chief secretary of the UT, and Vivek Partap Singh, additional chief secretary to the Punjab governor, accompanied the administrator during the visit.

Review of Existing Facilities

During the inspection, Kataria reviewed the current facilities at the sports complex and discussed various development works being planned by the Chandigarh administration to successfully host this prestigious international championship. He emphasized the need for adequate seating arrangements to accommodate a large number of spectators and directed officials to ensure the construction of strong and durable sheds over the seating areas for long-term public convenience.
