SRH Chase 229 to Beat RR in High-Scoring IPL Thriller

Sunrisers Hyderabad pulled off a stunning chase against Rajasthan Royals on Saturday, defeating them by five wickets at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium. They chased down 229 with nine balls to spare in IPL 2026.

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi's Blazing Century

Teen sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi scored 103 for Rajasthan Royals, smashing the third fastest century in IPL history. He reached his hundred in just 36 balls. However, his innings ended on the losing side as SRH's batting unit delivered collectively to complete the fourth highest run chase in IPL history.

This came just hours after Punjab Kings chased 265 against Delhi Capitals in New Delhi, which became the highest successful chase in IPL history.

SRH's Chase Led by Ishan Kishan

For SRH, Ishan Kishan led the chase with 74 off 31 balls, while Abhishek Sharma made 57 from 29 balls after receiving two lifelines in the innings. Heinrich Klaasen added 29, and Nitish Kumar Reddy scored 36. Klaasen and Reddy added 53 runs for the fourth wicket to take SRH closer before finishing the job comfortably.

Rajasthan Royals' Fielding Woes

Rajasthan Royals used as many as eight bowling options, but poor fielding hurt them badly. They dropped Abhishek Sharma twice. First, Shimron Hetmyer moved away from third man when Abhishek hit one straight to him off Nandre Burger. Later, Tushar Deshpande bowled a low full toss and Abhishek sliced it to Ravindra Jadeja at backward point, but the catch was dropped again. RR also missed another chance when Brijesh Sharma dropped Nitish Reddy off Jofra Archer when he was on 14.

Earlier in the innings, Dhruv Jurel also dropped Travis Head off Archer in the first over. Head made only 6 before Archer had him caught behind. Archer also tested Ishan Kishan with a 145.4 kmph short ball that took the edge, hit the helmet and ran away for four. Kishan recovered quickly and hit three fours off Archer. Abhishek and Kishan then took control of the game, adding 132 runs for the second wicket in just 55 balls, keeping SRH well ahead in the chase.

Rajasthan Royals' Innings

Earlier, Rajasthan Royals posted 228 for six, powered by another strong innings from 15-year-old Vaibhav Sooryavanshi. He made 103 off 37 balls with 12 sixes and five fours. He reached his hundred with a six off Sakib Hussain on his 36th ball, making it the third fastest century in IPL history after his own 35-ball hundred last year and Chris Gayle's 30-ball ton for Royal Challengers Bengaluru in 2013.

Sooryavanshi got an early life when he was on 32 after Aniket Verma dropped him at deep midwicket off Eshan Malinga. He made SRH pay for that miss and brought up his fifty in just 15 balls with a six in the sixth over. He added 40 runs in 14 balls for the first wicket and then shared a 112-run stand for the second wicket with Dhruv Jurel, who scored 51 off 35 balls. After reaching his century, Sooryavanshi was dismissed immediately as he missed a scoop off Sakib Hussain and was trapped lbw. Pat Cummins returned for SRH and finished with figures of 4-0-27-1, with his only wicket being RR captain Riyan Parag for 7.
