Riyan Parag has broken his silence on the ongoing vaping controversy that has surrounded him in recent weeks. The Rajasthan Royals batter, who played a blistering knock of 90 off just 50 balls against Delhi Capitals on Friday, stated that he does not feel the need to answer his critics.
Parag's Stance on the Controversy
Speaking after the match, Parag said, "I don't need to answer critics. I know what I do on and off the field. My focus is on my game and contributing to the team's success." The 24-year-old's comments come after a video of him allegedly vaping surfaced online, sparking widespread debate.
Match Performance
Despite Parag's heroics with the bat, Rajasthan Royals fell short by seven wickets against Delhi Capitals. Parag's 90, which included six fours and five sixes, powered RR to a formidable total of 225 for 6. However, DC chased down the target with ease, thanks to a brilliant partnership between their openers.
Donovan Ferreira also played a crucial role for RR, smashing an unbeaten 47 off just 14 balls to push the total past 220. However, the bowling attack failed to defend the target as Delhi's batters dominated the chase.
Team's Response
Rajasthan Royals management has remained tight-lipped about the controversy, with head coach Kumar Sangakkara stating that the team fully supports Parag. "Riyan is a mature player who knows his responsibilities. We stand by him," Sangakkara said in the post-match press conference.
The IPL governing council has not yet commented on the matter, but sources indicate that no formal action is expected unless further evidence emerges.
Looking Ahead
With the IPL season progressing, Parag will be keen to let his bat do the talking. His explosive innings against DC was a reminder of his immense talent, and he will hope to carry this form into the remaining matches to help RR qualify for the playoffs.
Meanwhile, the vaping controversy continues to divide opinions among fans and pundits, with some calling for stricter regulations and others urging the focus to remain on the sport.
