RCB Fans Celebrations in Hyderabad Lead to Lathi Charge

Hyderabad witnessed chaotic celebrations on Sunday night as supporters of the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) took to the streets to celebrate the team's IPL victory. Videos circulating online showed fans creating a ruckus on the roads, prompting police to resort to a lathi charge. However, no legal action has been initiated against anyone so far.

Celebrations Turn Reckless

Some clips showed fans burning firecrackers and damaging public property, while others were seen moving barricades, particularly near the Secretariat. Several individuals climbed onto vehicles and celebrated recklessly, adding to the chaos. The unruly behavior led to a massive traffic jam, forcing the police to intervene with a mild lathi charge to disperse the crowd.

“We had to deploy a mild lathi charge to disperse the crowd. We have, however, not taken anyone into preventive custody or booked any cases so far,” said Saifabad Inspector A Seethaiah to TOI.

Public Backlash on Social Media

The celebrations caused significant inconvenience to regular commuters and disrupted traffic movement. This drew widespread criticism on social media, with netizens questioning whether the celebrations had crossed the line from lawful sportsmanship spirit to public nuisance. Similar large-scale celebrations were also witnessed in Andhra Pradesh and Bengaluru.

Authorities have not yet announced any further action, but the incident has sparked a debate on responsible fan behavior during sporting events.
