On the occasion of Bakrid, the ulema (religious leaders) in Kanpur appealed to Muslim devotees to plant saplings to increase green cover in the city, provide water to birds, and arrange drinking water for road commuters amid the intense heat. They also urged citizens to contribute towards the development of the country.
Special Prayers for Peace and Brotherhood
Special prayers were offered for peace in society and for strengthening brotherhood and solidarity among the people. After offering namaz, the devotees embraced each other and exchanged Eid greetings.
Large Gatherings at Eidgahs and Mosques
Devotees started reaching Eidgah and mosques well before the scheduled time and offered namaz peacefully. At several mosques, prayers were offered in two shifts. In many places, the first shift of namaz was held at 5:45 am.
The largest gathering was witnessed at Markazi Eidgah, Benajhabar. The Eidgah management committee had appealed to devotees to offer prayers inside the campus, to which the Muslims responded positively. Hafiz Subhan Elahi led the namaz at the Eidgah, where he appealed to Muslims to display good behavior and meet people with love and affection.
Appeals for Environmental Care
At Eidgah Gadiana, Maulana Hashim Ashrafi appealed to people to take care of animals and birds during the ongoing intense heat conditions and provide them water. He also urged every person to plant and nurture a sapling.
Qazi Shahr Saquib Adeeb Misbahi, who led the namaz at Eidgah Chandmari, asked people to increase the green cover of the city by planting more and more saplings to conserve the environment.
Maulana Mushtaq Ahmad Mushahidi, Hafiz Faizan Barkati, Qari Maqsood Alam, and others also led namaz at different mosques in the city.
Sacrifice and Cleanliness Guidelines
The ulema also appealed to devotees to sacrifice animals at designated and closed places instead of in the open and not to block roads. They stressed that Islam never permits harassment of others by obstructing roads and urged them to maintain cleanliness.
Political and Administrative Presence
The Congress Party set up a camp at Badi Eidgah and greeted the devotees. City Congress party president Pawan Gupta said that the country’s biggest strength is “Ganga-Jamuni Tehzeeb”.
Senior district administration officials were also present at the Markazi Eidgah, Benajhabar. Police Commissioner Raghubeer Lal, District Magistrate Jitendra Pratap Singh, and Additional Police Commissioner (Law and Order) Vipin Tada were among those present. Police also used drones at sensitive places during the namaz.
Women Participation and Festivities
Women also offered namaz along with men at Jamiat Ahl-e-Hadees Eidgah, where separate arrangements were made for them. Master Abdul Kareem, Maulana Abdul Sami Nadvi, and Maulana Raza Ullah Salafi led the namaz at the Faithful Ganj and Shujaat Ganj mosques.
Tarr Ka Mela was also organized on the second day of Eid-Al-Adha in the Chamanganj area and on Nala Road, where vendors displayed and sold toys, utility items, and decorative articles. Swings were the main attraction for children.
