Jaipur: Divyanshi Jain and Dhairya Gogia from Rajasthan will represent India at the 33rd Asian Junior Squash Championship, scheduled to be held in Panzhihua, China, from May 20 to 24. Surbhi Misra, a former international player from Jaipur, has been appointed as the coach of the Indian team.

Details of the Tournament

Surbhi Misra informed on Saturday that India’s 32-member contingent will participate in the five-day tournament. The event will feature matches in the U-13, U-15, U-17, and U-19 age categories. She stated that Divyanshi Jain and Dhairya Gogia were selected for the Indian team based on trials held recently in Chennai. Divyanshi has been seeded second in the tournament.

Previous Performance

Surbhi added that at the previous Asian Junior Championship held in Korea, Indian players delivered an impressive performance, winning seven medals in total, including two gold and two silver medals. She noted that Aryaveer Diwan, who won the U-17 title last year, will now compete in the U-19 category and has been seeded third.

In the U-13 boys’ category, Abhyuday Arora and Amarya Bajaj have been seeded 3/4, while Shreshth Iyer has been seeded second in the U-15. In the girls’ categories, Divyanshi Jain is seeded second in U-13, and Shanaya Parasrampuria, Adya Budhia, and Anika Dubey have been seeded 3/4 in their respective age groups.

State Sports Minister Extends Best Wishes

Rajasthan sports minister Colonel Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore extended his best wishes to Jaipur’s players Divyanshi Jain and Dhairya Gogia for a strong performance in the tournament. On Friday, the minister visited the Squash Academy at Sawai Mansingh Stadium, played with the two players, and boosted their morale. Indian team coach Surbhi Misra was also present on the occasion.
