In a stunning display of power hitting, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) posted a mammoth 254 for 5 against Gujarat Titans (GT) in Qualifier 1 of IPL 2026 on Tuesday. The innings was headlined by skipper Rajat Patidar, who unleashed a breathtaking 33-ball 93, smashing nine sixes and five fours after surviving two dropped chances.
Patidar's Blitzkrieg Turns the Game
Patidar walked in at a crucial juncture and completely turned the game on its head. His innings was a masterclass in aggression, as he targeted every bowler with disdain. The RCB captain reached his fifty off just 18 balls and continued to accelerate, leaving the Gujarat Titans bowlers clueless. He was particularly severe on the spinners, hitting them for massive sixes over long-on and deep mid-wicket.
Early Reprieves Prove Costly for GT
Patidar was given two lifelines early in his innings. On 12, he was dropped by Shubman Gill at deep square leg off Rashid Khan, and on 38, a difficult chance was put down by David Miller at long-on. The Titans paid a heavy price for those misses as Patidar made them pay in style.
RCB's Strong Foundation
The foundation for the big total was laid by openers Virat Kohli and Faf du Plessis, who added 68 runs in 7.3 overs. Kohli scored a fluent 42 off 30 balls, while du Plessis contributed 38 off 22. After their departure, Patidar took charge, supported by cameos from Glenn Maxwell (27 off 14) and Kieron Pollard (22 off 10).
GT's Bowling Woes
Gujarat Titans bowlers had a forgettable day. Mohammed Shami was the most expensive, conceding 52 runs in his four overs. Rashid Khan picked up two wickets but went for 48 runs. The fielding lapses only added to their misery.
What Lies Ahead
Chasing 255, Gujarat Titans need a record-breaking effort to stay alive in the qualifier. RCB, on the other hand, will look to defend the total and book a spot in the final. With such a strong start, the momentum is firmly with the Royal Challengers.
