In a major crackdown on illegal IPL betting, the Silchar Sadar police conducted simultaneous raids in the Das Colony and Ashram Road areas on Sunday evening. The operation led to the arrest of four individuals allegedly involved in a betting racket.

Details of the Raids

According to police officials, betting-related materials and cash amounting to nearly Rs 50 lakh were seized during the operation. The arrested persons have been identified as Suman Roy (42), Suman Roy (48), and Nitai Roy (40) from Das Colony, while Sanjay Das was apprehended from the Ashram Road area.

Items Seized

During the raids at Das Colony, the police recovered five notebooks containing records of IPL betting transactions, Rs 30,190 in cash, seven mobile phones allegedly used to operate the betting app, and a bag. In a separate raid at Ashram Road, two mobile phones and Rs 15,100 in cash were seized.

Investigation Underway

Police sources said the operation was launched following specific intelligence inputs about IPL betting activities being run from the two localities. The accused are currently being interrogated at the Silchar Sadar police station. Investigators are trying to determine whether more persons are linked to the network and if the racket has interstate connections. Legal proceedings have been initiated, and further investigation is underway.
