Major IPL Betting Racket Busted in Mathura, BJP Leader Among Six Arrested
In a significant crackdown on illegal gambling activities, police in Mathura have arrested six individuals, including a local BJP leader, for allegedly running an extensive IPL betting racket. The operation was uncovered on Friday, following a joint raid by the Sadar police and the Special Operations Group (SOG).
Details of the Raid and Arrests
The main accused, identified as Bankebihari, was reportedly operating the illicit betting operation from a locked house located in Shivdham Colony. Authorities revealed that the racket involved betting on every ball of IPL matches, with financial transactions accumulating into lakhs of rupees.
During the raid, police seized substantial evidence, including approximately Rs 1.6 lakh in cash, 11 mobile phones, a laptop, and three notebooks that contained detailed betting records. The other individuals arrested in connection with the case are Adil, Rizwan, Kishore, Mukesh, and Bobby. Notably, all the accused are residents of Mathura, except for Bobby, who hails from Firozabad.
Legal Actions and Ongoing Investigation
A case has been formally registered under the Public Gambling Act, and police have emphasized that further investigation is actively underway. The primary focus is to trace and dismantle the wider network involved in this illegal betting syndicate, which has been operating covertly in the region.
