Varanasi Gears Up for Prestigious Padma Shri Mohammad Shahid Hockey Tournament
The historic city of Varanasi is set to host a major sporting event as the All India Padma Shri Mohammad Shahid Invitation Prize Money Men's Hockey Competition commences from February 17 to 24. This high-profile tournament will unfold at the Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar Sports Complex located in Bada Lalpur, bringing together top-tier hockey talent from across the nation.

Organising secretary RSO Vimla Singh announced on Friday that a total of 12 teams from various parts of the country will vie for the championship title. The matches will be conducted on a league-cum-knockout basis, ensuring an intense and competitive atmosphere throughout the event. This format combines round-robin league stages with knockout rounds, providing ample opportunities for teams to showcase their skills and strategies.
Substantial Prize Money and Star Players
The tournament offers significant financial incentives, with the winning team set to receive a substantial prize of Rs 2 lakh. The runner-up team will be awarded Rs 1 lakh, while the third-placed team will earn Rs 50,000. Adding to the excitement, the competition will feature over 12 international players, including renowned Olympian Lalit Upadhyay, who will display their exceptional gameplay for various participating teams.
