Teenage Football Player Dies After Collapsing During Village Tournament

A Sunday football match in Fazilka district turned tragic when a young player collapsed on the field and died. The incident occurred in Dharangwala village under Abohar sub-division.

Sudden Collapse During Active Play

Fourteen-year-old Jasmit, also known as Jassu, was participating in a tournament organized by the Maharishi Valmiki Sports Club. Teams from several villages had gathered for the competition.

During the opening match, Jasmit suddenly fell to the ground after kicking the football. Fellow players and tournament organizers immediately rushed to his aid.

They first took him to a private doctor before transferring him to a government hospital. Medical professionals at the hospital declared him dead upon arrival.

Family Background and Investigation Details

Jasmit lived in Alamwala village of Malout with his family. He was the youngest child in his household. His father, Purushottam, works as a laborer in the village.

Police from Abohar Sadar station have launched an investigation into the tragic incident. The teenager's body remains at the government hospital awaiting a postmortem examination.

Assistant Sub-Inspector Gurmeet Singh, the investigating officer, shared preliminary information from medical staff. "The duty doctor indicated this appears to be a cardiac arrest case," he stated.

However, Singh emphasized that the exact cause of death will only be confirmed after receiving the complete postmortem report.

Growing Concerns About Youth Cardiac Health

This tragedy highlights a disturbing trend across India. Medical experts report increasing incidents of young people suffering sudden heart attacks.

Several factors may contribute to this worrying pattern:

  • Sedentary lifestyles with insufficient physical activity
  • High stress levels affecting cardiovascular health
  • Poor dietary habits and nutritional imbalances
  • Undiagnosed genetic heart conditions
  • Excessive use of performance enhancers or energy drinks

Health professionals emphasize the importance of recognizing early warning signs. They advocate for regular cardiac screenings, especially for young athletes participating in competitive sports.

The football community in Fazilka district mourns the loss of a young talent. This incident serves as a sobering reminder of the fragility of life, even during activities meant for enjoyment and physical development.
