According to official court documents, Spanish prosecutors have asked the judicial authorities to impose a prison term of ten and a half years if Rafa Mir is found guilty of the alleged crimes. The former Wolverhampton Wanderers and Nottingham Forest forward faces nine years for sexual assault charges with an additional eighteen months for an alleged offence of causing injury.
The charges stem from an alleged incident that reportedly occurred in September 2024 at Mir's residence near Valencia. Authorities initiated a comprehensive investigation after a woman accused the professional footballer of sexually assaulting her following their meeting at a local nightclub.
Detailed Allegations and Prosecution Demands
The prosecution claims that the alleged assault took place at the footballer's home in the town of Bétera, located near the city of Valencia. Investigators have detailed that the incident reportedly occurred around the swimming pool area before continuing inside a bathroom.
Prosecutors allege that Mir forced the woman into unwanted physical contact and assaulted her twice without her consent. The alleged victim was twenty-one years old at the time of the reported incident.
Beyond the prison sentence, prosecutors are seeking additional measures including:
- A thirteen-year restraining order preventing Mir from approaching the alleged victim within five hundred metres
- Financial compensation of €64,000 (approximately $74,000) for the woman

Following months of investigation, a judge ruled that sufficient evidence exists for the case to proceed to trial. The proceedings are expected to be heard in a Valencia court before a panel of three judges rather than a conventional jury system. No official trial date has been announced yet.
In a related development, Mir's friend Pablo Jara is also facing charges in connection with a separate alleged assault involving another woman who was reportedly present at the house during the incident. Prosecutors have requested a three-year prison sentence for Jara if he is convicted.
