Moyano's Second-Half Heroics Seal Victory for Diamond Harbour
In a commanding display of football, Diamond Harbour FC defeated Aizawl FC 2-0 in Match 19 of the Star Cement Indian Football League (IFL) 2025-26. The match, held at the Rajiv Gandhi Stadium in Aizawl on Friday, saw Spanish midfielder Antonio Moyano emerge as the star with a decisive brace in the second half, according to a press release from the All India Football Federation (AIFF).
Table-Topping Performance
With this victory, Diamond Harbour FC ascended to the summit of the IFL standings, amassing nine points from three consecutive wins this season. In contrast, Aizawl FC slipped to seventh place with five points. Moyano's outstanding performance earned him the Player of the Match award, highlighting his pivotal role in the team's success.
Tactical Setups and Early Dominance
Both teams adopted 4-3-3 formations, with Aizawl FC head coach R Lalruatfela making two changes to his starting lineup, introducing Laldanmawia and Eric Remruatpuia Chhangte. Diamond Harbour gaffer Kibu Vicuna also made two alterations, starting Sunday Kolawole Afolabi and R Ramdinthara.
From the outset, Diamond Harbour asserted their dominance, controlling 74% possession and launching constant attacks. Aizawl FC initially adopted a defensive stance, but found their rhythm after approximately 20 minutes, creating a few half-chances as they improved possession towards the end of the first half. Despite Diamond Harbour's superiority, Aizawl's resolute defense kept key threat Luka Majcen at bay, maintaining a goalless scoreline at halftime.
Breakthrough and Sealing the Win
The deadlock was broken in the 47th minute when Moyano capitalized on a poor clearance from Aizawl defender Rohmingthanga. Picking up the loose ball, he executed a precise finish, calmly slotting it past goalkeeper Vanlalhriatpuia to give Diamond Harbour the lead.
As Aizawl intensified their attacks in search of an equalizer, they struggled to create clear opportunities. Diamond Harbour doubled their advantage in the 77th minute, with Bryce Miranda orchestrating a brilliant play. Miranda evaded two defenders and set up Moyano with an open net, allowing the midfielder to clinically secure his second goal of the night.
Complete Control and Final Whistle
Following the second goal, Diamond Harbour maintained complete control of the match. Play was briefly halted due to mist and bad light, resulting in 11 minutes of added time. Although Aizawl won a couple of late corners, they failed to threaten Diamond Harbour's defense. The visitors demonstrated unwavering dominance from start to finish, securing a crucial away victory that solidifies their position at the top of the IFL table.
