FC Goa Close to Securing Ishan Pandita's Return
FC Goa is on the verge of completing a significant move. The club is just a formality away from signing striker Ishan Pandita. This step aims to bolster their attacking options after losing several foreign players.
Pandita's Journey and Impact
Ishan Pandita, now 27 years old, began his professional football career in India with FC Goa back in 2020. He quickly earned a reputation as a super sub. Pandita became famous for scoring late goals shortly after entering the field. In his debut season under Spanish coach Juan Ferrando, he netted four goals in just 128 minutes of play.
His performances even caught the attention of the national team. Pandita earned a call-up under coach Igor Stimac. Now, he is set to return to Goa with a clear promise. The club has assured him of an important role in the upcoming Indian Super League season.
Addressing Goa's Striker Shortage
A senior official from FC Goa explained the situation. "Goa need strikers to fill the void and Ishan fits the bill," the official said. "He is hungry to play after a couple of seasons where he did not get enough game time. Goa offers him the perfect platform since he could start as the first-choice striker."
The club faces a shortage of quality forwards. This follows the departures of foreign players like Borja Herrera, Iker Guarrotxena, and Javier Siverio. Additionally, David Timor's return to Spain leaves Dejan Drazic as the only foreign option on the wings. However, there are concerns that Drazic might accept offers from other clubs before the January transfer window closes.
On a positive note, Spanish defender Pol Moreno will remain with Goa until the end of the season.
Pandita's Recent Moves and Influences
After leaving FC Goa, Pandita moved to Jamshedpur and then joined Kerala Blasters FC. Most recently, he spent the last few months with Malappuram FC in the Super League Kerala.
His decision to return to Goa is influenced by the presence of coach Manolo Marquez. Pandita has a strong connection to Spanish football. He spent six years in Spain, where he made history by becoming the first Indian to sign a professional contract. He inked a deal with former La Liga side CD Leganes for a spot in their U-19 team.
This move represents a strategic effort by FC Goa to rebuild their attack. They are counting on Pandita's experience and goal-scoring ability to make an immediate impact in the ISL.
