In a story reminiscent of the inspirational film 'Chak De! India', football coach Param Ashawar from Bhopal has become accustomed to persistent bank reminders regarding his multiple loan obligations. This 36-year-old NIS-certified coach, much like the fictional Kabir Khan, wagered his financial stability on a team of underprivileged girls from rural Madhya Pradesh, investing a substantial Rs 10 lakh to help them shatter funding barriers and achieve a historic milestone.
A Dream Funded by Personal Sacrifice
The remarkable success of the District Raisen Football Club (DRFC) stems directly from Param Ashawar's unwavering belief in the raw talent of these young athletes and the profound sacrifices he was prepared to make. All of his personal loans were channeled directly into covering essential expenses for his wards, including high-quality training kits, extensive travel costs, and comprehensive camp fees necessary for competitive preparation.
"These girls had fire in their bellies but no resources," Param explained to the Times of India upon returning from the tournament. "I couldn't watch their talents go to waste. The loans were a small price to pay for securing their future in the sport."
Historic Qualification Against All Odds
The girls repaid their coach's immense faith with an extraordinary performance during the Indian Women's League (IWL) qualification rounds last month. Against formidable competition, they delivered a creditable show, most notably toppling the seasoned and more accomplished Odisha FC in a stunning upset.
DRFC concluded their maiden IWL qualification campaign impressively, finishing joint third in their pool. They earned four crucial points through a combination of a significant victory and a hard-fought draw, thereby securing their place in Tier 2 of the elite league.

Placed in a notoriously tough qualification pool, Raisen pulled off more than one major upset. Their gritty 1-0 victory over Odisha FC, sealed by a decisive goal from forward Soni Munda, stands as a testament to their determination and skill.
