Osvaldo Dos Santos Neto, a Brazilian soccer player, is under investigation after allegedly initiating a violent confrontation at a bar in Udon Thani, which resulted in an attack on a retired American police officer and a female employee.
Dispute Over Unpaid Bill Escalates to Violence
The altercation occurred in the early hours of Monday at the Tinder Bar in Udon Thani. According to police and bar staff, the conflict began when Neto, after consuming drinks for several hours, allegedly attempted to leave without settling his bill. The owner, Kanyanee Kaewnok, stated that Neto's tab amounted to 5,100 baht (approximately $162) and that he refused to pay until nearly 9 AM.
"He sat there for a long time, refusing to pay the money until almost 9 AM. I wanted to close the bar and go home to rest, so I suggested that he withdraw money from the ATM in front," Kaewnok explained. She added that Neto became evasive and repeatedly tried to reach his car keys, raising suspicions that he intended to flee.
Retired US Cop Attacked While Recording
As the argument spilled onto the street, Douglas Robin Barker, a 74-year-old retired police officer from the United States, began recording the scene on his mobile phone. Witnesses report that this action angered Neto, who then allegedly slapped Barker, knocking the elderly man to the ground. In the ensuing chaos, a female bar employee was also pushed down.
Local bystanders and bar staff quickly intervened. Neto attempted to escape in his Honda sedan but was stopped by the crowd. Several individuals pulled him from the vehicle and struck him before he managed to get back inside and drive away from the location.
Legal Repercussions and Football Career in Jeopardy
Police Captain Pongpol Piwphong of the Mueang Udon Thani Police Station confirmed that two male bar employees sustained facial and hand abrasions during the fight. The bar owner has confirmed plans to file a formal police complaint and pursue legal action against the footballer.
The incident raises serious questions about Neto's immediate future in professional football. The 42-year-old winger and midfielder, who has played for Thai League clubs including PT Prajuap FC and Srisaket United, had only recently signed with Udon United just days before the brawl.
