In a stunning upset that captivated the local cricket community, the Youth Service Centre (YSC) club defeated the heavily favored Reliance team by seven runs to claim the Late Anshuman Gaekwad Premier League trophy on Thursday. The final, organized by the Baroda Cricket Association (BCA), showcased an extraordinary display of determination from the underdog side against a squad brimming with experienced Ranji Trophy-level talent.
YSC's Resilient Batting Performance
Facing a Reliance team that many considered the clear favorite, YSC demonstrated remarkable composure by posting a competitive total of 194 runs in 40.4 overs during the one-day tournament format. Opener Akshay More anchored the innings with a solid 53 runs off 72 deliveries, providing crucial stability at the top of the order.
Parikshit Patidar contributed 34 runs while Shivang Sane added 32, though the middle and lower order struggled to build substantial partnerships. Despite this challenge, YSC managed to set a target that would ultimately prove just beyond Reliance's reach.
Reliance's Valiant Chase Falls Short
Reliance's response began disastrously as their top order collapsed against YSC's fiery bowling attack. Jyotsnil Singh managed a patient 31 runs from 65 balls, but it was Vishnu Solanki who nearly turned the game around with a magnificent 90-run innings from 115 deliveries.
Just as Reliance seemed poised for victory, the crucial breakthrough came when Parikshit Patidar dismissed Solanki at a critical juncture. Following this wicket, Reliance's lower order crumbled under pressure, with only Abhimanyu Singh offering resistance through his 39 runs from 83 balls. The team was eventually bowled out for 187 runs in 49.4 overs, falling just seven runs short of their target.
