Indian cricket star Yashasvi Jaiswal was admitted to a hospital in Pune late Tuesday night, suffering from severe stomach pain. The incident occurred shortly after he played for Mumbai in a high-stakes Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy Super League match against Rajasthan.
What Happened to Yashasvi Jaiswal?
The young opening batsman reportedly experienced stomach cramps during the match itself. However, his condition deteriorated sharply after the game concluded. Due to the intensifying pain, he was rushed to Aditya Birla Hospital in Pimpri-Chinchwad for emergency medical care.
Hospital authorities conducted a thorough evaluation, which included an ultrasound and a CT scan. The diagnosis confirmed that the 23-year-old was suffering from acute gastroenteritis. He received immediate treatment via intravenous medication and was advised to continue with prescribed care and take complete rest.
Playing Through the Pain
Despite the discomfort, Jaiswal showed remarkable dedication by taking the field for the crucial Super League fixture. He managed to score 15 runs off 16 balls as Mumbai successfully chased down a formidable target of 217 runs to secure a three-wicket victory.
The win was powered by brilliant knocks from Ajinkya Rahane, who remained unbeaten on 72, and Sarfaraz Khan's explosive 73 from just 22 deliveries. Unfortunately, despite this victory, Mumbai's campaign in the tournament ended as they failed to qualify for the next stage.
Recovery and Future Prospects
As of now, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has not released an official medical bulletin on Jaiswal's health. Further updates on his recovery are anticipated in the next few days.
This hospitalization comes during a period of strong form for the left-handed batter. In the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, he scored 145 runs in three matches at an impressive average of 48.33 and a strike rate of 168.6. He also recently shined in the ODI series against South Africa, amassing 156 runs, including his maiden century in the format.
Looking ahead, Jaiswal is expected to have adequate time to recuperate fully. He is not part of India's current T20I squad, and the national team's next international assignments are scheduled for mid-January. This provides the promising opener with a window for recovery without immediate competitive pressure.
