Indore Hosts WPL Speed Queen Trials, Over 100 Women Fast Bowlers Showcase Talent
Over one hundred aspiring women fast bowlers from Indore and various parts of Madhya Pradesh gathered on Sunday for the WPL Speed Queen selection trials. This significant turnout clearly signals the expanding reach of structured pathways in women's cricket across the state.
Organized Talent Hunt at Takshashila Campus
The Board of Control for Cricket in India organized these trials as part of its talent hunt initiative. They held the event at the Takshashila Campus of Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya in Indore. Selectors and franchise-linked scouts carefully evaluated each participant's performance.
Bowlers from Under-19 and Under-23 age groups demonstrated their skills throughout the day. Officials assessed speed, control, and bowling actions with keen attention. Many players experienced national-level evaluation for the very first time during these trials.
Promising Performances Across Age Groups
In the Under-19 category, several bowlers stood out with their consistent performances. Disha Sharma, Deepti Singh, Mansha Rathor, Muskan Yogi, and Renuka K displayed both pace and tidy technique that caught the selectors' eyes.
The Under-23 segment also featured impressive bowling displays. Anamika, Khyati, Ashi Tomar, Neha Yadav, and Deepa delivered composed performances that strengthened their prospects within the program. Their measured run-ups and steady spells reflected solid preparation and genuine ambition.
National Initiative with Clear Objectives
The WPL Speed Queen initiative specifically aims to identify raw fast-bowling talent. It seeks to guide promising players toward the Women's Premier League ecosystem. Players who show progress receive tracking from franchise scouts throughout their development.
Successful participants may earn opportunities to train directly with WPL teams. Sustained strong performances can eventually open doors to league selection, creating clear career pathways for talented bowlers.
Wider National Trial Process
The Indore leg represents just one part of a comprehensive national trial process. Organizers have already conducted similar trials in multiple cities including Delhi, Jaipur, Kanpur, Varanasi, Prayagraj, Agra, and Vadodara.
Further trials remain scheduled across several additional locations. Bengaluru, Kolkata, Mumbai, Pune, Nagpur, and Haridwar will all host upcoming selection events. The final round begins in Mumbai from February 1, completing this extensive talent search.
Second Round Likely in Indore
Several aspiring bowlers could not attend the Indore trials due to scheduling conflicts. The India versus New Zealand match at Holkar Stadium and parallel Khelo India events created timing challenges for some participants.
Given the strong response from across Madhya Pradesh, officials indicated a second round in Indore appears likely after January 25. Previous participants remain eligible to appear again, providing another opportunity for those who missed the initial trials.
