Two college students die in Trichy truck accident

Trichy: Two college students lost their lives after a container truck collided with their two-wheeler near Musiri in Trichy district on Wednesday. The deceased were identified as S Maheswar Thayal, 19, a BSc student at a private college in Trichy, and his friend R Arul Muthukumaran, 20, a BSc student at a private college in Musiri.

According to police sources, the two youths were heading home on a two-wheeler in the early hours of Wednesday. While approaching Seriyampattimedu on the Musiri-Thuraiyur state highway, a container truck coming from the opposite direction hit their vehicle. Thayal and Arul sustained critical injuries and died on the spot. The truck driver fled the scene.

Musiri police recovered the bodies and sent them to the Musiri government hospital for postmortem examination. Police obtained CCTV footage, noted the truck's registration number, and traced the vehicle to A Senthilkumar from Dindigul district. Following the truck's route, they arrested Senthilkumar on Thursday. He was later produced before a magistrate and remanded in judicial custody.

Senthilkumar was booked under sections 281 and 106(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for rash and negligent driving causing death.
