US President Donald Trump extended his best wishes to the United States men's national football team ahead of their FIFA World Cup campaign opener against Paraguay on Friday. The match is scheduled to take place in Inglewood, California.
The official X account of the US football team shared a video showing head coach Mauricio Pochettino receiving a phone call from Trump. The post was captioned: "Last night, we received a message of support from POTUS ahead of our World Cup journey."
During the call, Trump told Pochettino: "I just called to say you are a fantastic guy, a fantastic coach. I know all about your record and your success. I think you have got a really good chance of going all the way. I just want to wish you a lot of luck."
In response, Pochettino thanked the president and vowed to make the United States proud with the team's performances in the tournament.
The United States is placed in Group D alongside Paraguay, Australia, and Turkiye. Following the opening match against Paraguay on Friday, the US will face Australia in Seattle on June 19 and then Turkiye on June 25 back in Inglewood.
