Stars Commit to Jason Robertson as Top Offseason Priority

The Dallas Stars have confirmed their commitment to keeping star forward Jason Robertson in the organization long-term, despite growing speculation surrounding his future. Speaking recently, Stars general manager Jim Nill made it clear that re-signing Robertson remains the franchise’s top offseason priority.

Robertson's Performance and Contract Situation

Robertson is coming off another elite offensive season after recording 45 goals and 96 points during the 2025-26 campaign, while also leading Dallas in playoff scoring during their first-round postseason exit against the Minnesota Wild. According to reports, Robertson is signed to a 4-year, $31 million contract with a $7.75 million cap hit per season, which expires at the end of the 2025-26 season, making him a Restricted Free Agent (RFA).

This contract status prompted speculation surrounding his future and the club’s salary cap situation. However, Dallas Stars GM Jim Nill has recently announced that forward Jason Robertson is expected to remain with the team, quashing all trade speculation. He emphasized that Robertson’s extension remains Dallas’ top offseason priority while speaking to the media regarding the team’s injury lists and shedding light on his off-season plans.

GM Nill's Statement

Speaking to Dallas media, Jim Nill stated, “So my plan is to reach out to his agent in the next week or so. That’s our focus, to get him signed. He’s a big part of our team, and we’ve drafted and developed him.” He quashed all the growing speculations through this statement.

As Robertson is set to become a restricted free agent this summer after completing the four-year, $31 million contract he signed in 2022, his next deal is expected to carry a significant salary increase, potentially placing further pressure on Dallas’ already complicated cap structure. With this statement by Jim Nill, it can be said that Robertson’s value will get a significant boost. In fact, NHL insider Elliotte Friedman also pushed back against growing offseason chatter linking Robertson to potential trade scenarios, emphasizing that the rumors lack substance and are not clarified by the player himself.

Robertson's Offensive Prowess

According to Yahoo Sports, Robertson has tallied around 45 goals and 51 assists for 96 points across all 82 games. His playmaking skills and excellent performance have made him one of the league’s top offensive talents and a candidate for a lucrative long-term contract that could carry an annual value north of $12-14 million.
