From U-19 Sensation to IPL Aspirant: Vaibhav Sooryavanshi's Title Ambition
The cricketing world continues to buzz with the rise of Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, the prodigious talent who first captured headlines at just 14 years old. Now, after a stellar performance in the U-19 World Cup, the young batter is channeling his focus toward the Indian Premier League, with a clear mission to deliver a championship-winning season for the Rajasthan Royals.
Historic Achievements and IPL Aspirations
Sooryavanshi left an indelible mark during IPL 2025 by becoming the youngest centurion in tournament history. Earlier this year, he further cemented his status as a rising star by powering India to their sixth U-19 World Cup title in Harare. In a breathtaking final against England, he smashed a blistering 175 runs off just 80 balls, showcasing his explosive batting prowess.
Speaking on the sidelines of the BCCI Naman Awards, the dynamic batter outlined his priorities with unwavering clarity. “The goal this IPL season is to win the trophy for the team, as it is a very important thing,” Sooryavanshi stated. “I want to do well, and my performance will help the whole team. This is my goal — to contribute to RR's wins and win the trophy for the franchise.”
Reuniting with Teammates and Reflecting on Early Days
The awards ceremony provided a joyful reunion for Sooryavanshi with his U-19 teammates and coaches. “It feels really nice. Won a trophy as well for India at the World Cup. Because of this award ceremony, feeling nice to meet my teammates and coaches again here,” he expressed with evident delight.
Hailing from Bihar, Sooryavanshi made history as the youngest IPL signing ever when Rajasthan Royals secured him in 2024 at the tender age of 13 for Rs 1.1 crore. Reflecting on those formative years, he shared insights into his recruitment journey. “When I made my domestic debut, RR had been keeping an eye on me during my domestic and Under-19 games. Their scouting team had been keeping an eye on me for a long time. I felt that I could go to RR because my trial with them had gone very well. I am happy to be with RR, as I have improved a lot too in my life while playing for them.”
Learning from Legends and Senior Players
Sooryavanshi also highlighted the invaluable learning experiences gained from the team's senior players and the legendary Rahul Dravid during his initial IPL stint. “For any youngster, the first IPL camp is always interesting and it was the same for me too. Rahul (Dravid) sir was there at that time, so I got to learn a lot from him. There were a lot of senior players in the team, and I had a good learning experience from them during the first camp as well as the first IPL,” he recounted.
Looking Ahead to IPL 2026
As the IPL 2026 season approaches, all eyes are firmly fixed on Vaibhav Sooryavanshi. The young sensation is poised to transform his prodigious talent into franchise glory, aiming to lead Rajasthan Royals to a coveted title. His journey from a record-breaking U-19 star to an IPL aspirant underscores a promising career trajectory, filled with dedication and remarkable achievements.
