Indian cricket star Smriti Mandhana has made the difficult decision to postpone her highly anticipated wedding to singer Palash Muchhal after her father experienced a serious health emergency that required immediate hospitalization.
Medical Emergency Strikes During Wedding Preparations
Shriniwas Mandhana, father of the celebrated Indian women's cricket team opener, was rushed to Sarvhit Hospital and Medical Research Centre in Sangli on Sunday after displaying symptoms consistent with a heart attack. The health crisis occurred just days before what was supposed to be his daughter's wedding celebration, sending the family into emergency mode.
According to Dr. Naman Shah, Director of Sarvhit Hospital, the medical incident unfolded around 11:30 AM when Shriniwas Mandhana began experiencing left-sided chest pain. "He was immediately transferred to our facility for further assessment," Dr. Shah confirmed to news agency ANI.
Ongoing Medical Monitoring and Treatment
The hospital director provided detailed information about the patient's current condition. "Despite his slightly raised cardiac enzymes, he requires ongoing observation. Our cardiologist, Dr. Rohan Thanedar, has examined him as well," Dr. Shah stated.
Medical reports indicate that while the echocardiogram showed no new findings, Shriniwas Mandhana may require continuous ECG monitoring and potentially angiography depending on his progress. Currently, doctors are monitoring his slightly elevated blood pressure and maintaining close observation.
Dr. Shah suggested that the health episode could be linked to "physical or mental stress, perhaps because it is wedding season with a lot of hectic activity," highlighting the potential connection between the stressful wedding preparations and the medical emergency.
Wedding Plans Put on Hold Indefinitely
The wedding, originally scheduled for November 23 in Sangli, has been postponed indefinitely according to Smriti Mandhana's manager, Tuhin Mishra. He confirmed to media outlets that the cricketer has put all celebrations on hold while her father remains under medical observation.
"Smriti is very clear that she wants her father to recover first and then resume the wedding. It has been indefinitely postponed," Mishra stated, emphasizing the athlete's priorities during this challenging time.
The decision comes despite pre-wedding festivities already being underway. Social media platforms had been buzzing with celebrations from Saturday, including a viral video showing Smriti and Palash dancing joyfully to the Bollywood song 'Tenu Leke' during what appeared to be their sangeet ceremony.
Family and friends had shared numerous glimpses of the couple's celebrations before the medical emergency interrupted the wedding preparations, making the postponement particularly poignant given the excitement that had been building around the event.
The development has forced the couple to shift their focus entirely to Shriniwas Mandhana's health and recovery. The medical team at Sarvhit Hospital continues to monitor his condition closely, with further decisions about treatment plans pending based on his progress in the coming days.
