Chennai Super Kings batter Sanju Samson struck his fifth Indian Premier League (IPL) century on Thursday during his team's IPL 2026 match against Mumbai Indians at Mumbai's Wankhede Stadium. Samson completed his century on the last ball of the innings with a four off Krish Bhagat's delivery. This was his second century of the season, his second for CSK, and his fifth in IPL history.
Samson Joins Elite List
In the process, Samson joined Rohit Sharma at number two in the list of most centuries in T20s among Indians. The list is led by Virat Kohli and Abhishek Sharma, each with nine centuries. Rohit Sharma and Sanju Samson now have eight centuries each, with Samson's tally including his latest knock.
Most Centuries in IPL
In the IPL, Virat Kohli tops the list with eight centuries, followed by Jos Buttler with seven. Chris Gayle has six, while KL Rahul and Sanju Samson each have five centuries.
Samson's unbeaten 101 powered Chennai Super Kings to 207/6 against Mumbai Indians in a clash between the two five-time champions. The CSK opener and wicketkeeper-batter anchored the innings, staying till the end as wickets fell at regular intervals at the other end. He hit 10 fours and six sixes in his 54-ball knock. This was his second century for his new franchise, CSK.
For Mumbai Indians, AM Ghazanfar and Ashwani Kumar bagged two wickets each, while Jasprit Bumrah was economical with figures of 1/31.
