PCB Overhauls Central Contracts with New Track System for Players
PCB Introduces Track System for Central Contracts

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has introduced a major overhaul of its central contracts system, replacing the traditional A, B, C, and D categories with a new format-based 'Track' system. Under this model, players will be contracted according to their specialization across different formats of the game.

New Track Categories Explained

Track A is reserved for red-ball specialists, while Tracks B and C cater to ODI and T20 players respectively. Track D is designated for T20 and franchise cricket specialists. This restructuring aims to provide clearer career pathways and ensure players understand expectations in their respective categories.

Financial Incentives for Red-Ball Players

PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi, alongside white-ball head coach Mike Hesson, announced the changes during a media briefing. Naqvi emphasized that special attention has been given to improving financial incentives for red-ball players. He stated that the revised contracts were designed after extensive discussions to ensure longer-format players do not feel disadvantaged compared to their white-ball counterparts.

Naqvi added, "The players' contracts would only be renewed if they come up to all required performance and fitness standards." This ensures accountability and maintains high standards across all formats.

Data-Driven Selection Process

In a significant shift, the PCB also announced a major change in the selection process. Future selections will be based 85 percent on data analysis and 15 percent on recommendations from national selectors. According to Naqvi, this move aims to ensure transparency and merit in team selection while reducing the chances of deserving players being overlooked.

Aligning with International Trends

The revamped contracts system is part of PCB's broader effort to align Pakistan cricket with the evolving landscape of international cricket, where players increasingly specialize in specific formats. This strategic shift is expected to enhance performance and provide a clear roadmap for players.
