Patna's Moin-ul-Haq Stadium Set for Major Upgrade with ₹498 Crore Cricket Complex
The Bihar Cricket Association (BCA) has taken a significant step towards transforming cricket infrastructure in the state by signing a ₹498 crore agreement for the construction of an international-standard cricket complex at the historic Moin-ul-Haq Stadium in Patna. This ambitious project, awarded to Shivansh Infrastructure Development Pvt Ltd, marks a major investment in sports development in Bihar.
Project Details and World-Class Facilities
The international cricket complex will be constructed on approximately 30 acres of land and is designed to feature world-class facilities that meet global standards. The centerpiece of the complex will be a stadium with a seating capacity for 40,000 spectators, providing a grand venue for cricket matches and other sporting events.
BCA CEO Manish Raj explained that the project was awarded to the lowest of two bidders and will be completed at the agreed cost of 498 crore rupees. The main playing area and essential facilities will be developed in the first phase, while the second phase will include the construction of badminton and volleyball courts, creating a multi-sport complex.
Comprehensive Infrastructure Development
The project encompasses much more than just cricket facilities. According to Raj, the complex will include:
- A five-star hotel for visitors and officials
- A fully-equipped hostel with all necessary facilities for players
- A restaurant and clubhouse for social and recreational activities
- A rainwater harvesting system for sustainable water management
- Accommodation for approximately 300 players
Technical Specifications and Construction Timeline
The main cricket ground will feature a sand-based playing surface with a modern drainage system and drainage layer system designed in accordance with international standards. The facility will also be equipped with a pop-up and rain gun system for efficient watering of both the outfield and main ground.
BCA secretary Ziaul Arfeen emphasized the timeline for the project, stating that the association has two years to complete the work. "BCA will have to hand over the complex after removing all hindrances to make the land available for construction work," he explained.
Coordination with State Authorities
To ensure smooth implementation, BCA will hold a meeting with the state sports department on February 11 to finalize the date for starting construction work. This coordination between the cricket association and government authorities is crucial for the timely execution of such a large-scale project.
Vision for Cricket Development in Bihar
BCA president Harsh Vardhan highlighted that this project reflects the association's long-term vision for developing cricket in Bihar. The international-standard complex is expected to not only host major cricket tournaments but also serve as a training ground for budding cricketers from the state, potentially nurturing future talent for the national team.
This development comes at a time when Bihar is seeking to establish itself as a significant player in Indian sports infrastructure. The Moin-ul-Haq Stadium complex, once completed, is poised to become a landmark sporting venue in Eastern India, attracting both domestic and international cricket events while providing state-of-the-art facilities for athletes and spectators alike.
