Monty Panesar Predicts England's Ashes Victory in Australia After 15 Years
Panesar: England to win Ashes if they clinch Perth Test

Former England Spinner Backs Team for Historic Ashes Victory

In a bold prediction that has caught the attention of cricket fans worldwide, former England spinner Monty Panesar has expressed strong confidence in his national team's chances of reclaiming the Ashes in Australia after a 15-year drought. Panesar, who participated in England's previous away Ashes campaigns, believes the current squad under Ben Stokes possesses the necessary tools to create history Down Under.

Australia's Injury Woes Give England Crucial Edge

Panesar highlighted several factors working in England's favor, particularly Australia's mounting injury concerns. The absence of key bowlers Pat Cummins and Josh Hazlewood from the Australian lineup could prove decisive according to the former spinner. Additionally, Panesar expressed doubts about Australia's batting stability, specifically mentioning opener Usman Khawaja's recent form struggles.

"You look at Australia and there's no Pat Cummins and no Josh Hazlewood. They've got an opener, which is a David Warner replacement, but we don't know how he's going to go about it," Panesar stated during his appearance on SENWA Breakfast. He further emphasized that England's chances significantly improve if they can secure victory in the first Test match in Perth.

The Battle of Spinners Could Decide Series Outcome

While Australia boasts the experienced Nathan Lyon with 562 Test wickets to his name, Panesar believes England's young spinner Shoaib Bashir could emerge as the surprise package of the series. Despite Bashir having only 68 Test wickets at an average of 39, the former England international sees potential for the 22-year-old to outperform the veteran Australian spinner on home turf.

Panesar provided a detailed series prediction: "I think they (England) will win at Brisbane, Adelaide will probably be Australia, Melbourne, I think maybe Australia again. If it's two-all going into Sydney, it will be the battle of the spinners. And who knows, it could be just Shoaib Bashir coming into his own there, so I believe it'll be 3-2 or 3-1, England."

The first Test between the traditional rivals begins in Perth on Friday, setting the stage for what promises to be an enthralling contest. Panesar's confidence stems from his observation that the current English squad is better equipped than the teams that suffered 5-0 whitewashes in 2006-07 and 2013-14, despite Australia not having lost a home Test to England since 2011.
