Indian bowling coach Morne Morkel has thrown his weight behind Sanju Samson and Abhishek Sharma, while also stating that teenage sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi's debut will come in due time. Speaking ahead of the ongoing India vs England series, Morkel addressed the media and provided insights into the team's preparations and the youngsters' progress.
Morkel backs Samson and Abhishek
Morkel emphasized that both Samson and Abhishek have the full backing of the coaching staff. "Sanju and Abhishek are quality players. They have shown their talent in domestic cricket and we are confident they will deliver at the international level," Morkel said. The former South African pacer added that the team management is giving them ample opportunities to settle into their roles.
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi's adaptation
On the 15-year-old Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, who has been making waves with his performances, Morkel revealed that the youngster has adapted well to the dressing room environment. "Vaibhav is a special talent. He has fitted in seamlessly with the senior players and is learning every day. His time will come, but we don't want to rush things," Morkel stated. When pressed for a timeline, the bowling coach remained non-committal, saying the team will take a call based on match situations and his development.
India's bowling attack for the series
Morkel also discussed the bowling unit's strategy against England. "We have a balanced attack with pace and spin options. The key is to execute our plans consistently," he noted. With Jasprit Bumrah leading the pace attack, supported by Mohammed Siraj and Mukesh Kumar, India looks well-prepared for the challenges ahead.
As the series progresses, all eyes will be on how Samson and Abhishek perform, and whether Vaibhav gets his maiden cap. For now, Morkel's words offer reassurance to the young guns and the fans alike.
