Mohali's Five Cricketers Selected for Punjab U-16 Squad

In a significant boost for cricket in the region, five promising young players from Mohali have secured their spots in the Punjab Under-16 state squad. Their selection is for the prestigious Vijay Merchant Trophy 2025-26 tournament, marking a historic moment for the district's cricketing fraternity.

Meet the Selected Mohali Cricketers

The talented quintet from Mohali district includes wicketkeeper-batsman Harjagteshwar Singh Khaira and batsman Akshat Gagneja. The all-round capabilities of the district are highlighted by the selection of leg-spin all-rounder Abhishek Rajput, alongside medium-pace all-rounders Shivam Mattri and Ayaan Srivastava. Their consistent performances across various platforms paved the way for this achievement.

Road to Selection and Historic Recognition

The players' journey to the state team was built on strong foundations. DCA Mohali secretary Manjinder Singh Baidwan credited their success to impressive showings in district trials, specialized PCA camps, and crucial inter-state practice matches. A key factor was their contribution to Punjab's victory in the recently concluded Balram Ji Dass Tandon Tournament.

Baidwan personally met and congratulated the selected athletes, describing the inclusion of five boys from a single district as a "historic moment" for Mohali cricket. This accomplishment underscores the depth of talent and effective training systems within the district.
