A 30-year-old businessman and local cricket player was assaulted with a sharp-edged weapon after he declined to play for the opposing team in Ludhiana. The victim sustained three fractures and is currently undergoing treatment at a private hospital.

Incident Details

According to the complaint filed by Gurwinder Singh of Kaneja village in Meharban, the Division No. 1 police have registered an FIR against Manpreet Singh Grewal of Guru Angad Dev Colony, Naati of Bhamian village, Richard, and nine other unidentified accomplices.

Sukhwinder Singh, the victim's brother, told TOI: "My brother and I run a factory and play cricket for passion at the local level. We had a cricket tournament on the night of May 31. "After dinner, most of the team members left while Gurwinder, along with Raja, Palash, and Deepak, were returning in their car in the early hours when the accused, who were consuming beer on the roadside, intercepted them. The accused hurled abuses, prompting Gurwinder and his friends to get out of the car. The accused then assaulted them with sharp-edged weapons and fled," he added.

Sukhwinder said Gurwinder sustained severe injuries while his friends had minor ones. He alleged that Gurwinder suffered three fractures: on his nose, eyebrow, and head.
