Jadeja Rested, Bumrah Returns for England ODIs
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced a 15-member ODI squad for the upcoming three-match series against England, starting July 12, 2026. The biggest talking points are the absence of all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja and the return of pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah. Jadeja has been rested, while Bumrah is back after recovering from a back injury that kept him out of the preceding Test series.
Squad Composition and Key Inclusions
The squad sees the inclusion of young wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan, who has been in prolific form in domestic cricket, scoring 567 runs in the Vijay Hazare Trophy at an average of 81.00. Also making a comeback is spinner Yuzvendra Chahal, who was overlooked for the Test series. "We have a balanced side with a mix of experience and youth," said chief selector Ajit Agarkar in a press release. "Bumrah's return bolsters our bowling attack, and we have options in the spin department with Chahal and Axar Patel."
Batting Order and Captaincy
Rohit Sharma will lead the side, with Shubman Gill as vice-captain. The top order features Rohit, Gill, and Virat Kohli, followed by Shreyas Iyer and KL Rahul. Hardik Pandya provides the all-round balance. The pace attack includes Bumrah, Mohammed Shami, and Mohammed Siraj, with Arshdeep Singh as the left-arm option. The spin department comprises Axar Patel, Yuzvendra Chahal, and Kuldeep Yadav.
Impact of Jadeja's Absence
Jadeja's absence is notable given his all-round contributions. In his last 10 ODIs, he has taken 15 wickets and scored 212 runs at a strike rate of 95. The team management has opted to rest him ahead of a busy international calendar, including the Asia Cup later this year. "Jadeja's workload management is crucial," Agarkar added. "We have enough cover in Axar Patel and Hardik Pandya."
Series Schedule and Venues
The three ODIs will be played on July 12 (Mumbai), July 15 (Chennai), and July 18 (Kolkata). All matches are day-night fixtures starting at 1:30 PM IST. England will be led by Jos Buttler and will look to bounce back after losing the Test series 2-1.
