The fourth season of the International League T20 took a significant step forward in its regional growth strategy. For the first time ever, the league held an auction that selected players from Kuwait and Saudi Arabia. These emerging cricketers went on to feature prominently across all six participating franchises throughout the tournament.

Each franchise signed at least one player from both Kuwait and Saudi Arabia. This move provided these athletes with a rare and valuable opportunity. They trained, competed, and shared dressing rooms with some of the biggest international stars in world cricket. The season concluded dramatically on January 4th. Desert Vipers secured their first ILT20 title by defeating MI Emirates in the final match.
Players Reflect on Transformative Experiences
Throughout the competition, players from Kuwait shared their perspectives on working alongside established cricket icons. Mohamed Aslam, captain of the Kuwait national team who played for Sharjah Warriorz, described the steep learning curve. He emphasized the wealth of experience gained simply by being in the dressing room environment.
"It's a tremendous opportunity to represent Sharjah Warriorz in the ILT20," Aslam stated. "We are accumulating vast experience here. As Kuwait's captain, sharing space with leaders like Tim Southee and Sikandar Raza has been incredible. I've gathered so much information by asking questions. For an associate cricket player, this is a fantastic chance. I aim to apply everything learned when I return to Kuwait."
Historic First Appearances and Lasting Impact
Mohammed Shafeeq created history by becoming the first player from either Kuwait or Saudi Arabia to appear in an ILT20 match. He took the field for MI Emirates against Dubai Capitals. Reflecting on that milestone, Shafeeq praised the instrumental role of the support staff.
"The coaching staff's support has been amazing because this feeling is completely new for us," he explained. "It will undoubtedly help our future development. The coaches constantly watch us and provide technical feedback. Playing alongside legends like Kieron Pollard, Nicholas Pooran, and Jonny Bairstow is a huge moment. They operate at different levels, yet they consider us for every match. That means a great deal."
Technical Improvements and Shared Knowledge
Anudeep Chenthamara of Dubai Capitals also highlighted the exposure's immense value. "I thank the Kuwait Cricket Board and ILT20 for this big opportunity," he said. "The experience and learning here have been substantial. Working with experienced players and coaches allowed me to improve from basics to advanced techniques. For instance, I've modified the base of my run-up."
Gulf Giants batter Meet Bhavsar, a veteran of 73 T20Is for Kuwait, echoed these sentiments. "Sharing the dressing room with modern cricket superstars has been a great experience," Bhavsar noted. "Facing someone like Tabraiz Shamsi in the nets proved really challenging and immensely helpful. I will try to share as much knowledge as possible with the rest of the Kuwait team. I'm truly grateful for this chance."
Daily Learning in a Championship Environment
From the championship-winning Desert Vipers camp, Bilal Tahir spoke about the continuous learning process. "We learn so much every single day," Tahir remarked. "We have excellent coaches and a great environment. Their teaching style genuinely helps us improve. Playing with these stars is a dream because they are legends. We learn tremendously from them. Just recently in the nets, Fakhar Zaman advised me on specific improvements. I'm very thankful to Desert Vipers for this opportunity."
Abu Dhabi Knight Riders' Adnan Idrees also emphasized the value of proximity to elite players. "It's a fantastic experience, and I'm really enjoying my time here," Idrees shared. "Learning from legends is always a blessing. Sharing the dressing room with players like Andre Russell, Jason Holder, Phil Salt, and Liam Livingstone makes me believe my game will improve significantly. They keep offering tips about staying focused. I've already learned a lot. They are gems both as people and cricketers. It's a joy to be around them. I feel blessed to participate in ILT20 and hope more players get similar chances."
