Sri Lanka leg-spinner Wanindu Hasaranga has yet to report to the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) for the IPL 2026 season, and there is no indication of when he might join the squad, according to a report by Cricbuzz on Monday. The situation is compounded by a lack of clarity regarding his fitness clearance from Sri Lanka Cricket, casting significant uncertainty over his participation in the league.
Fitness Test Hurdle Delays NOC Issuance
The 28-year-old leg-spinner, who was acquired by LSG at a base price of Rs 2 crore, has not undergone the mandatory fitness test required by Sri Lanka Cricket before it issues No Objection Certificates (NOCs) to players for the IPL. Without clearing this critical process, his involvement in the tournament remains in jeopardy. Hasaranga is currently recovering from a hamstring injury, which has sidelined him for nearly two months.
As per the Cricbuzz report, Hasaranga recently engaged in a batting session at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo but did not bowl. His last competitive appearance was in Sri Lanka's opening match of the T20 World Cup against Ireland on February 8, where he suffered a tear in his left hamstring.
LSG Considers Replacement Options
A source quoted by Cricbuzz stated, "We don't have any concrete update on Wanindu Hasaranga." In response, the Lucknow Super Giants are now evaluating potential replacement options for the Sri Lankan spinner. Among the players available in the replacement pool are:

- Mohammad Nabi
- Liam Dawson
- Rehan Ahmed
Hasaranga's absence highlights broader concerns among IPL franchises regarding overseas players failing to join after being selected at base price. Following a complaint from Sunrisers Hyderabad in 2024, the IPL introduced provisions for sanctions on such players who withdraw after the auction.

On a positive note, LSG secured their first victory of the IPL 2026 season on Sunday, with captain Rishabh Pant leading the team to a five-wicket win against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). Meanwhile, there are signs of progress for Sri Lankan pacer Matheesha Pathirana, who is part of Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). He has begun bowling in the nets at the Premadasa Stadium, albeit not at full intensity, and the franchise remains optimistic about his availability later in the season.
