"There were so many things said and written after we lost the Test series against South Africa," Gambhir said. "But nobody wrote or spoke about the fact that in the first Test we played without our captain (Shubman Gill) and we lost the match by just 30 runs." Gill had been forced to retire hurt after facing just three balls in the first innings due to a neck injury.
Sharp Retort to IPL Owner's Suggestion
The coach also took direct aim at comments made by Delhi Capitals co-owner Parth Jindal, who had publicly called for a split coaching system in Indian cricket following the Test series result. Jindal had taken to social media platform X to criticise the performance, calling it a "complete thrashing" and suggesting the team was "nowhere near reflective" of India's red-ball strength. He had advocated for a move to a "specialist red-ball coach for Test cricket."
Responding to this, Gambhir emphasised the importance of staying within one's domain. "A lot of people have been saying a lot of things, some going out of their domain, like one IPL owner who suggested split coaching," he remarked. He added a firm principle: "Everyone should remain in their domain. If I don't interfere in other's work, then they don't have the right to interfere in mine."
