Udupi: An eighty-year-old man died after a bus collided with the two-wheeler he was riding near Shankattu road in Shankaranarayana police limits on Friday. The deceased has been identified as Basava Naik.
Details of the Incident
Around 11:45 am, Naik was riding a motorcycle on the Kundapura-Ampare road. As he reached the Shankattu road from the Moodubagey Balkattu bridge, a bus driven by Ashok from the Siddapur side struck his motorcycle. The collision allegedly occurred due to negligence on the part of the bus driver. The bus dragged Naik for a short distance before coming to a halt.
Immediate Response
The complainant, Premanand Shetty, along with other members of the public, rushed to assist the injured and provided first aid. Basava Naik sustained severe injuries to his right leg, both arms, and chest. The complainant then took Naik to a government hospital for medical attention. However, upon arrival, doctors declared that he had already passed away.
Legal Action
A case has been registered at the Shankaranarayana police station in connection with the accident. Authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding the collision. The bus driver is expected to face charges related to negligent driving causing death.
This tragic incident highlights the need for heightened caution on roads, especially for elderly riders and at intersections. Local residents have expressed concerns over traffic safety in the area.
